The holiday season means a little more celebrating (ahem, wine), but that doesn’t have to be bad! Put that collection of wine corks to use with this creative Christmas gift. A wine cork base makes a bulletin board both functional and artsy—and we love the idea of hanging Christmas cards on it for the holidays. Choose a frame deep enough to hold whole corks, or cut the corks in half lengthwise with an extra-fine razor saw (available at crafts stores). Secure the corks to the frame backing using wood glue.
To overcome the common problem people faced as to what to give one’s spouse each year, an American author by the name of Emily Post, who wrote on the topic of etiquette, was the first to recommend a list of anniversary gift themes which was published in 1922 in her book titled 'Etiquette’. In that book, she listed suggestions for the first anniversary, followed by the fifth anniversary, and then every five years or so up until the 25th, and concluded with the 50th wedding anniversary. The American National Retail Jeweler Association expanded on this list in 1937 by filling in the missing years up to the 14th wedding anniversary, and the subsequent multiples of five up to the 50th year.
Last year, I recommended the Skinnytaste Fast and Slow cookbook (which I own and love), so this year I have to recommend the latest cookbook in the author’s series—Skinnytaste One and Done. As a longtime follower of the blog Skinnytaste, I can confirm all of Gina’s recipes are both healthy and amazing. If you want to get another gift to go with it, check out our favorite small appliances so they can use the cookbook with it.
Admittedly, some of the presents might seem a little strange at first, as it's doubtful most men will shriek with delight should they receive a gift of lace or china. But despite a few head-scratching selections, the list features a range of helpful, thoughtful and diverse gift ideas that can serve as a jumping-off point for shopping ventures. In fact, many men and women struggling to locate the perfect anniversary present have been delighted by this handy guide, which takes out much of the gifting guesswork. Of course, if you find that your creativity is stifled by such specificity, rest assured that you can choose to interpret the suggested material as loosely as you like.
Cute Christmas gift ideas that are customizable always win, and that's why we love these homemade Christmas coasters for family and friends. Print silhouette clip art onto heavy white paper and cut out the shapes. Use a pencil to lightly trace each silhouette onto the center of a wooden plaque. Trace over the pencil lines using a wood-burning pen fitted with a narrow cone point. Fill in the outlines by burning the silhouettes with a flow point on a wood-burning pen. Apply two coats of glossy polyurethane sealer to the coasters, letting each coaster dry between coats. Paint the beveled edges of the coasters gray, and let the paint dry before adding a final coat of polyurethane sealer. Glue four felt circles to the bottom of each coaster.
These guys usually have hobbies that are a bit more technical, relying on their hands, minds, and a keen sense of what they’re doing. Automotive guys who always have a parts car, or spend some of their weekends getting their hands dirty, or guys who enjoy DIY, building models and woodworking, are just a few of those who want something they can use and could care less about how it looks.
The perfect tech gift all depends on who you're thinking of gifts for — boyfriend, husband, dad, etc. Is he someone who loves using tech to explore and see things in new ways? Introduce him to the aerial photography craze with our huge selection of drones. Maybe he's more of a hands-on adventurer who'd enjoy capturing his exploits on an action cam. Or perhaps he's a pragmatist who likes to have information at his fingertips, in which case wearables like smartwatches and activity trackers could be right up his alley. While we can show you the best gifts for men based on our expertise, you're the one who knows the guy you're shopping for and what will make him happy.
The traditional gift for the 15th anniversary is crystal, and we have to say: It's what's on the inside that counts. Quartz crystals are used in many watches to help keep time more accurately. When selecting a watch for your boo, we recommend going with Fossil. The company has a blend of high-quality time-pieces and sparkly smartwatches to fit anyone's style. Some, like the styles pictured above, use quartz crystals to aid with time keeping.
Durable board books for infants personalized with the baby's name and photo make adorable keepsakes, while older adopted children will love seeing their name and photo in print in beautifully illustrated storybooks. For children who just became big brothers and sisters, personalized storybooks remind them they're still loved, and that a new sibling can be fun.
