Give the gift of a hand-painted Mason jar or glass container this holiday season. They make gorgeous vases, makeup brush holders, or pencil cups. To craft this Christmas gift, paint the outside of the jars with two coats of paint. We mixed several shades of pink with white to create a range of hues, but any color scheme works. For a touch of glam, mask the top of the jar with painter's tape and cover the bottom with glitter spray paint.

Maddie is APW's Chief Revenue Officer. She's been writing stories about boys, crushes, and relationships since she was old enough to form shapes into words, but received her formal training (and a BS) from NYU in Entertainment and Mass Media in 2008. She now spends a significant amount of time thinking about trends on the internet and whether flower crowns will be out next year. A Maine native, she currently lives on a pony farm in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband Michael, their son Lincoln, and an obnoxious mastiff named Gaia. Current hair color: Natural (gasp!)
If he tells you not to get him anything, don’t. Men tend to naturally speak with their actions more than their words, and if they push the envelope that they don’t want anything, it could be for a few reasons. They might feel awkward or weird accepting gifts, or if you’re living off a joint income, it could just be for monetary reasons. There are old cliches of women telling their men not to get them anything for a birthday or event, and then getting upset when they don’t get them anything. This idea comes to people’s heads, but in all our experience, it’s actually a pretty clear instruction.
While everyone races to get the most mainstream gifts you’ve seen advertised in the weekly circulars, these gifts are all off the beaten path so to speak. They’re sure to be off your man’s radar, and they are the sort of thing he’ll definitely show off to his buddies, or at least tell them about it. You’ll find everything from shaving kits to beer brewing kits, to TVs that take up entire walls.

You will note that after 20 years, there aren't traditional gifts associated with every marital year, however, there is a modern theme for each year right up to 30 years of marriage. This reflects the need for a couple to continue to sustain romance and commitment as they progress through married life. Some years also have no floral symbol, gemstone or colour associated with them. We do, however, suggest useful gift ideas for every wedding anniversary year.
So you’ve gone to all the trouble to find what you thought was the perfect gift, only to read the expression on their face, and thank the stars above that you kept that gift receipt or proof of purchase. This is where you’ll have to pay serious attention to shopping online. Buying from stores that have brick and mortar establishments nearby will allow you to go with them, and physically exchange the gift for one of two things: store credit, or an item of equal or lesser value.
One of the easiest ways to keep a relationship fresh is to explore new things together, and cooking is a fun one to play with since you can do it together in the comfort of your own home, and then enjoy the delicious results (or have a new story of a cooking disaster to share!). This kit is clever: Your challenge is to roll the dice, each of which has a different food group or kind of ingredient on it (like cooking methods, grains, veggies, herbs and proteins), then try to concoct a dinner using the ingredients you rolled. Being creative together and problem-solving to build a meal will surely bring you closer together, especially if you don’t take it to seriously — and solve the problem with a glass of wine in hand.
In 1985, the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) published its initial version of the Gemstone Information Manual. This manual has been adopted within the trade as the gold standard for disclosure of pearls, cultured pearls and natural gemstones. In that manual, the gemstones or precious metals that are associated with each wedding anniversary are listed for every anniversary year from the first to the 25th, and every five years thereafter up until the 60th wedding anniversary. It is interesting to note that there are some inconsistencies between this and other reputable sources as to the exact gemstone for each anniversary. This could simply reflect a difference due to the region of the world in which the list of anniversary gemstones was compiled. As such, the table in this section predominantly lists the gemstones according to the AGTA. Any variations in gemstones for a particular anniversary year as derived from other sources, are listed as alternatives for completeness, and to offer the reader a wider variety of options.

When my husband and I were approaching our first anniversary, we made a deal that we would choose gifts that align with the traditional anniversary gifts, year by year. I don’t know why, exactly, but something about giving gifts that have been given for hundreds of years appealed to us, I guess. To review, here are the traditional wedding anniversary gifts:
